LOS ANGELES – Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell and the City’s Housing + Community Investment Department announced the launch of an Emergency Rent Subsidy Program that is geared toward helping tenants pay their rent while the Safer at Home orders are in place.

The City Council approved the allocation of $100M of CARES Act funding to be placed in the City’s COVID-19 emergency program. This program has been set up to assist those struggling to make ends meet.

**Applications will be accepted starting July 13 at 8 AM, and ending Friday, July 17, at 11:59PM (online).

“Pulling together at every level of government as never before is required to keep people housed and businesses open during this unprecedented time,” said Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell. “Much more is needed but this $100M rent subsidy program is a great start. Allocating this funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act will help stabilize thousands of families in Los Angeles. Previously, I allocated an additional $1 million for distressed renters in my district. The recovery will be hard enough without people having to worry about how to stay housed and put food on the table while meeting their financial obligations.”

The City’s Housing + Community Investment Department is the program manager and has the following requirements from applicants:

  • Must live in the City of Los Angeles
  • Must provide proof of tenancy (lease documents)
  • Must meet income limits
  • Economically affected by COVID-19.

Interested residents can apply online from July 13, starting at 8 AM and ending Friday, July 17, 11:59 PM (online). Please visit hcidla.lacity.org for more information, or call 844-944-1868, TTY: 844-325-1398 (speech or hearing impaired).
