Spend a Midsummer's Night at Barnsdall for 'Free Shakespeare in The Park' 2008

shakespeare

Hark! The Independent Shakespeare Company will commence their 2008 edition of Free Shakespeare in The Park at Barnsdall Art Park on June 26 with performances of William Shakespeare's classic works.

This year, the company will be performing productions such as Twelfth Night, Henry IV (Parts 1 & 2) and Dr. Faustus Thursday through Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. until August 24. Performances take place outdoors, under the stars, at a special ampitheatre set up in the park for the plays.

The East Hollywood Neighborhood Council is proud to be a first-time sponsor of Free Shakespeare in the Park, having contributed $5001 - the largest contributor of all of the local neighborhood councils - to the production.

The company will also have special events throughout the summer, including an "EHNC Night" -- look for an announcement in a future edition of East Hollywood Neighborhood News.

All performances are free and open to all in the community, but reservations are recommended. Those with reservations will have advanced seating before 7 p.m. during fully-booked performances. To reserve, email which day you would like to come, the title of the play, and how many people will be in your party to: boxoffice@independentshakespeare.com or call 323.836.0288.

Here She Is, Miss Thai Town...

miss_thaitown

Over a dozen Contestants vied for the title of "Miss Thai Town 2008" at Thailand Plaza Restaurant on June 8. Additionally over a dozen men also contested for the first "Mr. Thai Town 2008."

The East Hollywood Neighborhood Council purchased a dinner table at the fundraising event, of which the proceeds went towards the senior health programs of Thai Health and Information Services, Inc, a local nonprofit located in Thai Town. EHNC Board and Committee members were in attendance and also gave away a pair of tickets to community members via an email contest for the event. Graciela Geyer from the Silver Lake-Hollywood-Ehco Park Metropolitan Alliance was our lucky ticket winner!

New Arts & Culture Committee Formed; Committee Calendar

The EHNC formally created a new committee -- Arts & Culture -- at its May meeting. The new committee will work with the various arts institutions, galleries, studios, theatres, venues and schools in the community as well as the resources of Barnsdall Art Park to integrate the arts and cultural institutions into the improvement and advancement of our East Hollywood community. Anyone interested in joining, or learning more about this committee can contact EHNC Arts & Culture Committee Co-Chair Jennifer Moran at jennifer@easthollywood.net.

The work of our neighborhood council is done by our committees, who discuss relevant issues and submit them for Governing Board approval at our monthly meetings.
